2023 Fundraising Goals

With two more vintage watercraft placed under our care, we have plenty of projects to challenge and train or hard-working enthusiastic young people. In addition to the ongoing routine maintenance of the other vessels. These projects include.

M/V Conquest 1929

Hook up engines and steering gear

Reinstall fuel tank and cockpit

S/V Rose of Sharon 1930

Reinforce and replace frames and floors In aft section of Schooner

Replace keel bolts, reinstall tanks and interior furniture

Revarnish masts and overhaul rigging

M/V Black Douglas 1928

Complete composite reframing

Install new keel section and stern tube

Replace planking caulk and paint

All of these projects provide great opportunities to bring on new interns, and advance our interns, apprentice and journeyman who are ready to take on new challenges. The skills these people acquire while doing these projects broadens their career opportunities gives them the confidence and the training that they need to provide those services to our maritime community.

Of course funding is needed to provide this type of training. We estimate the budget for 2022 to be in excess of $200,000. The product of this investment is priceless-the preservation of these elegant classic watercraft, and the high level of technical training these young people receive at a fraction of of the cost of what most institutions are charging these days makes the Maritime Preservation Trust an investment you can truly be proud to be a part of.

We are able to do this because the administration, management and much of the training is done by volunteers.
